Minor League Mascots, Major League Funk
Russell Athletic

Protecting unsuspecting mascots from the danger of foul balls.

Russell Athletic introduced a line of odor-fighting FreshForce boxer briefs with a simple goal – to rid the world of underwear funk. So we put them to the test them in the stinkiest, sweatiest, furriest place of all – inside a series of six-and-a-half feet tall, 80 lb. mascot suits.

In July. In Texas. And Nevada. And New Mexico.

Soon, Russell FreshForce became the officially unofficial underwear of Minor League Baseball mascots. Along with “documentary” films, we brought the idea to life with Funk Relief Nights at ballparks around the country (complete with an underwear cannon) and personalized relief kits for every Minor League mascot in America – all 256 of them.

It all helped this new odor-fighting underwear outpace sales goals at Walmart in the first crucial few months after launch. The campaign also gained attention in other places like Communication Arts and The Drum (Creative Work of the Week) before it went on to collect two Clio Sport Awards and four National Addy Awards.
