Dairy Queen wasn’t just a partner of the summer’s biggest movie, they were a major plot point. So to celebrate the release of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy 2, we sent one thousand very lucky DQ fans on an adventure of their own. Their mission? Find the last remaining cassette player in the galaxy and listen to our mixtape filled with exclusive soft-serve-inspired tracks to discover what amazing prize they had won. No tape player? No prize. The only way to win was to listen.
This scrappy scavenger hunt was just part of a larger campaign that gathered 39 million earned impressions and helped sell over six million Guardians of the Galaxy-themed Blizzard Treats. Along the way, it picked up a National Addy Award and a writeup in Little Black Book. Not bad for an idea based on a technology most recently seen in a candy apple red 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix.
